In her new show, Pink Lions, Paper Crowns, Aliza translates childhood memories into iconic, brilliantly painted animal narratives. She states:

"The stories of our childhood teach us how to live with each other. They remind us to imagine, solve problems, deal with uncertainty, and face the consequences of our decisions, all while fighting trolls or dragons. Stories of superhero narratives, rabbits defending burrows, and closets leading to magical worlds have imprinted me for life.  My show, Pink Lions, Paper Crowns, is a siren call to the wild little child hidden in our grownup self. In these pieces, you’ll recognize characters from your childhood and meet the creatures that have wandered across my heart and mind my whole life. Open your eyes to tigers enchanted by winged friends, a fox who dearly loves the sky-bound moon, a bear gazing at her satellite,  the hare-o-naut flying away in his (ch)air-balloon, and… those lions in their paper crowns."

Welcome to Aliza's August show:

Pink Lions, Paper Crowns.

Camano Island artist, Jed Dorsey loves how light changes objects, from alleyways to mountain vistas, plants, and trees, creating shadows and diverse colors. One of his favorite subjects to paint is filtered sunlight on roads, rivers, sidewalks, or paths. It is an invitation to the viewer. He paints landscapes and cityscapes because he has lived in both rural and urban spaces, and sees beauty in both. Whether painting on location or from reference material, he uses a strong sense of design and composition to create scenes in an aesthetically pleasing way, adding his own colorful interpretation.

June 1, 2022 - June 27, 2022

Ron Stocke is internationally acclaimed for his dynamic cityscapes, interiors and more. His impressionist style is both exciting and unique; simplifying shapes and exaggerating values, his combinations of lost and found edges separate his work from his peers. Describing his show, Ron states:

I feel like this show was a rebirth in a way. After spending two years through the pandemic where I struggled creatively and only painted at a fraction of my normal pace. I benefited by having to examine and rethink what it was I wanted to say as an artist.

I have always used strong light and shadow as a supporting role to connect my subject matter, but in this series, I’m exploring light and shadow more closely. Some of the details I observed while sketching and developing these works included the color temperature in shadows, the strength and power of the light, and even the way the particles floating in the air were highlighted by light. The paintings in this collection vary from places I’ve visited, and shops I frequent, to my favorite corner of our house. I wasn't focusing on the specific details so much as the feeling I get while being in these locations.

Susan Diehl captures light and shadow in textural brushstrokes. With strong values and colors playing together she captures stories of life, from beautiful vistas to city sidewalk scenes, to intimate, rich still lifes.  Describing her show, Susan states:

"Life is like a tapestry. Its richly woven relationships and events create a beautiful fabric.  Highs and lows with family and friends become strands of our happenings, sketching a profile that becomes our memoir.  Without the loom, and armed only with my oils, I have been interested in creating  a pattern of  texture with layers of oil paint, developing a surface quality capable of invoking the mysteries within the viewer's mind."
